Koukoumavlos Restaurant
Frommer's Review
The terrace at Koukoumavlos enjoys the famous caldera view, but unlike most caldera restaurants where a spectacular view has to compensate for mediocre food, here the view is a distraction from the delights of the kitchen. The menu changes often, as the chef tries out new dishes with ingredients not always used in Greece (a wide variety of mushrooms, for example). Many dishes offer creative variations on traditional Greek food, like the shrimp poached in retsina; or the fava served hot in olive oil with grilled zucchini, onions, tomatoes, olives, and toasted almonds. For dessert, try the yogurt panna cotta with pistachios, thyme honey, and sour cherry.

A new entry in the Santorini restaurant arena.A classy establishment, on first impression. Lavishly furnished and decorated, this restaurant is very pleasing to the eye and to the taste.

1800 Restaurant
At the northern tip of the crescent, the village of Oia frosts the land with a cluster of white houses, many built by wealthy ship-owners in the nineteenth century. One of the most spectacular homes had been abandoned for more than three decades when architect Ioannis Zaggelidis began restoring it in 1986. He called it RESTAURANT 1800. The menu focuses on traditional Greek dishes, including roasted fish and a mezedes platter with local cheeses. Grilled lamb chops, a Greek classic, are served with an original touch: a sweet-and-sour green applesauce. All are enhanced by the view from the rooftop garden, the perfect spot for a certain wealthy ship-owner to be there in spirit.
